Cardax Inc.’s stock soared 31.4 percent Thursday after the company announced it had received a purchase order from General Nutrition Corp. to stock Cardax’s new anti-inflammatory dietary supplement ZanthoSyn in all of the more than 3,200 GNC corporate stores nationwide beginning this fall.
Shares of the Honolulu-based company rose 5.5 cents to match its 52-week high of 23 cents.
Japanese conglomerate adds isle realty firm
A Japan-based conglomerate now owns two real estate brokerage and management firms in Waikiki catering to Japanese buyers and sellers. Myland Hawaii Realty announced Thursday that it has acquired Fogarty Realty.
Myland is owned by Aska Traffic Group, a company in Japan overseeing 40 companies that include a taxi service, driving schools and manufacturing businesses.
Aska established Myland in 2008 and said the firm led by Sal Miwa brokered $76 million in Hawaii property sales last year.
Fogarty Realty was established in 1974 and is led by Jeannie Fogarty. Myland said Fogarty Realty will continue operating.
Big Island’s Zane, Kanaka‘ole to be honored
Sig Zane and Nalani Kanaka‘ole of Sig Zane Designs will be inducted into Junior Achievement’s Business Hall of Fame on Aug. 26 at Nani Maui Gardens in Hilo. Their artwork can be found on aloha shirts, airplane livery, hotels rooms and buildings.
Tickets for the event, which begins at 5 p.m., are $75 each or $600 for a reserved table of eight. Proceeds will support Junior Achievement of Hawaii island’s financial literacy and entrepreneurship programs that are delivered to more than 4,000 K-12 students annually on Hawaii island.
30-year mortgage rate dips to 3.90%
WASHINGTON >> Long-term U.S. mortgage rates were unchanged to slightly lower this week.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday the rate on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages declined to 3.90 percent from 3.93 percent last week. The rate on 15-year, fixed-rate home loans held steady at 3.18 percent.
