Moanalua alum and UNLV incoming senior John Oda shot a 4-over-par 74 on Tuesday to stay alive after the second round of the U.S. Amateur at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles.
Oda shot a 68 on Monday to tie for seventh place, but dropped to 35th place on Tuesday. Oda will face Justin Tereshko of Greensboro, N.C., in the first round of match play today at 9:10 a.m.
Punahou grad PJ Samiere missed the cut by six strokes after shooting a 78 in the second round of stroke play.
HPU picked 10th in preseason poll
Three Hawaii women’s soccer teams were selected to finish 10th through 12th in the Pacific West Conference preseason poll announced Tuesday. Hawaii Pacific was picked 10th, followed by Hawaii Hilo in 11th and Chaminade in 12th place.
Coaches gave defending champion Azusa Pacific 10 of 14 first-place votes for the top spot. No Hawaii school had representation on the preseason All-PacWest team.
