Police have initiated a reckless-endangering investigation after a 39-year-old man was burned in a mishap in Makakilo on Thursday.
At about 2:30 a.m., Honolulu Fire spokesman Capt. David Jenkins said, the Fire Department responded to a medical call to assist Emergency Medical Services with an injured person at a home on Awawa Street.
EMS spokeswoman Shayne Enright said the man suffered burns to his face, neck and one of his arms.
The circumstances of how he was burned is under investigation, Honolulu police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said.
The man was taken in serious condition to a trauma hospital.
Driver dies after car slams into tree
A 70-year-old motorist died Thursday after he crashed into a tree in Pearl City.
His name was not released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.
Just before 10:25 a.m., police and Emergency Medical Services said, a vehicle operated by the Pearl City man was traveling southbound on Kaahumanu Street near Waiau District Park when, for unknown reasons, he drifted to the right of the roadway and crashed into a tree.
Paramedics took him in critical condition to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Speed and alcohol were not factors, police said.
This is the year’s 27th traffic-related fatality on Oahu, compared with 37 at the same time last year.
Arrest made in alleged assault in Hauula
Police arrested a 20-year-old man Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old man in Hauula.
At about 12:45 p.m. Monday, police said, the suspect assaulted the victim with an unspecified dangerous instrument, causing a puncture wound to his back.
Police said the injured man was taken to a hospital where his wound was “deemed a substantial bodily injury.”
The suspect fled the scene after the attack but turned himself in at the Kahuku Police Station on Wednesday night. He was arrested on suspicion of assault.
Charges brought in credit card theft
A 23-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly used a fraudulent credit card to make over $3,000 in charges at a Waikiki hotel.
Brandon Harding was charged Wednesday with second-degree theft. His bail has been set at $40,000.
Harding made the charges with the fraudulent card at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort and Spa from Aug. 5 to 11, according to police and a court document.
Police arrested him Monday afternoon.
Shoplifting suspect arrested in Pearl City
Police arrested a 29-year-old woman after she allegedly attempted to shoplift merchandise from a store in the Pearl City area.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, store employees confronted the suspect when she attempted to flee. During the confrontation, police said, the suspect used force against a 25-year-old employee.
Police were called, and the suspect was arrested shortly afterward on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
