No. 13 UCLA holds off Wahine in 5 sets

Mac May put down 18 kills and No. 13 UCLA turned back No. 20 Hawaii, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 15-10, to win the championship of the Texaco Invitational tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

It is the first 0-3 start for the Rainbow Wahine since 1980.

Hawaii got 29 kills from McKenna Granato and a career-high 19 digs and a career-high 15 kills from Casey Castillo and a career-high 10 from Kendra Koelsch.

UH libero Savanah Kahakai also had a career high with 28 digs.

UCLA’s Reily Buechler was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Senior middle Emily Maglio also was named to the team.
