A 17-year-old Waianae girl died Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Farrington Highway in Waianae.

According to police, the girl was struck by a car operated by a 47-year-old man and heading east on the freeway near Maipela Street around 9:30 p.m.

The girl was transported in critical condition to a local trauma center, where she later died.

Excessive speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the incident, according to police.

This was the 30th traffic-related fatality on Oahu this year compared to 39 at the same time last year.
