Rainbow Wahine sweep Nevada


    Hawaii’s Norene Iosia and Clare-Marie Anderson chased after a ball during tonight’s match against Nevada.

Junior hitter McKenna Granato put down a match-high 16 kills and senior libero Savanah Kahakai moved to No. 8 on the all-time digs list as Hawaii finished the 22nd Outrigger Resorts Challenge with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-12 sweep of Nevada tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Junior hitter Casey Castillo added 13 kills and sophomore setter Norene Iosia had her fifth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs. Kahakai finished with 18 digs, moving her past Suzanne Eagye for No. 8 with 1,018.

Nevada (2-6), losing its sixth straight, got 12 kills from Shayla Hoeft (Seabury Hall).

Hawaii (4-5) finished second in the three-day volleyball event. The Rainbow Wahine lost the tiebreaker to No. 10 BYU (8-1) on head-to-head, having lost to the Cougars in five on Thursday.

Earlier today, Baylor upset BYU, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 28-26, 15-10, ending the Cougars’ undefeated season.

Named to the all-tournament were Hawaii’s Granato and Emily Maglio, BYU’s Mary Lake and Roni Jones Perry, Baylor’s Katie Staiger and Nevada’s Hoeft. The Cougars’ McKenna Miller was named the Most Outstanding Player.
