Four games into his collegiate career, Oregon State freshman Kesi Ah-Hoy, a 2017 Kahuku alumnus, was the primary kick returner for the Beavers in a 52-23 loss to Washington State on Saturday at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Wash.
Ah-Hoy returned three kickoffs for 58 yards with a long of 26, and assisted on a tackle for Oregon State, which dropped to 1-3 overall.
Six players with Hawaii ties stepped on the field. Washington State junior defensive end Hercules Mata’afa, a 2014 Lahainaluna alumnus, started but didn’t record any official statistics.
Oregon State senior linebacker Manase Hungalu started and had five tackles and a pass breakup, while starting defensive tackle Kalani Vakameilalo (Kapolei ’14) added a sack for the Beavers.
Defensive end Titus Failauga (Mid-Pacific ’13) assisted on a tackle and tight end Tuli Wily-Matagi (Kahuku ’15) also saw the field for OSU.
Noa leads Cal in receiving
California sophomore receiver Kanawai Noa, who had 15 total catches in his first 18 college games, led the Golden Bears in receiving with six catches for 81 yards in a 22-16 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
Cal improved to 3-0, with Noa, a 2015 Punahou alumnus, helping the Bears beat an SEC team for just the fifth time in school history.
Noa started the game with a career-long 28-yard reception in the first quarter and his receptions and receiving yards totals were both career highs as well.
Kansas’ Tovi makes first start
Kansas offensive lineman Andru Tovi, a 2016 Mililani alumnus, made the first start of his Division I career on Saturday in a 42-30 loss to Ohio.
Tovi, a 6-foot-3, 310-pound sophomore transfer from Pima Community College in Arizona, started at left guard and helped the Jayhawks pile up 451 total yards.
Running back Khalil Herbert rushed for a career-high 137 yards with Tovi leading the way at times.
Shiramizu honored again by NWC
Pacific Lutheran junior defensive specialist Caylie Shiramizu, a 2015 University Lab alumna, was named one of two Northwest Conference volleyball student-athletes of the week on Monday.
Shiramizu, who also won the award two weeks ago, averaged 7.3 digs per set over the weekend to help the Lutes sweep defending league champion Whitworth on Friday. She had 24 digs in the win over the Pirates and added 34 digs in a five-set loss to Whitman (Wash.) on Saturday.
Shiramizu has played in all 36 sets for the Lutes this season and is averaging 5.5 digs per set. She’s also second on the team with 10 aces.

>> Anna Uhr, ‘Iolani ’15: The Harvard junior finished with a team-high 39 digs, nine assists and an ace in wins over Boston College, Northeastern and UMass-Lowell over the weekend to win the New England Challenge Tournament.
>> Kaylen Higa, Punahou ’15: The Azusa Pacific junior setter had 22 assists, six digs and three aces in a sweep of Point Loma on Thursday and added 17 assists and seven digs in a Saturday sweep of Fresno Pacific.
