Junior outside hitter Lucee Fitzgerald recorded a match-high 15 kills as the Hawaii Hilo women’s volleyball squad swept Academy of Art 25-19, 30-28, 25-19 for its first PacWest conference win of the season on Friday in Hilo.
Junior libero Mina Grant picked up a match-high 18 digs in the win for the Vulcans (4-5, 1-2 PacWest), while freshman setter Sha Rae Niu posted 20 assists.
A trio of Urban Knights finished with double-digit kills, led by freshman Kimiah Johnson’s 13, Bailey Soolsma’s 12 and Ashley Pawlak’s 10. The Urban Knights fell to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in PacWest play.
>> Chaminade remained undefeated in the PacWest with a 12-25, 25-23, 27-25, 28-26 win over Fresno Pacific on Friday at McCabe Gymnasium. Freshman outside hitter Claire Zanon posted a double-double with a match-high 18 kills and 10 digs for the Silverswords (8-3, 3-0 PacWest). Chaminade sophomore Emma Tecklenburg added 14 kills and a team-high 19 digs.
Senior middle blocker Malerie Crenshaw led the Sunbirds (2-9, 1-2 PacWest) with 12 kills and Gabriela Macedo posted 11 kills and 15 digs in the loss.
>> Hawaii Pacific suffered its first conference loss in a five-set thriller against Dixie State, 21-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-8, on Friday at St. Andrew’s Priory. The Sharks struggled offensively and hit .186 in the match, compared to the Trailblazers’ .238 hitting percentage.
Freshman outside hitter Cameryn Collie led HPU with 24 kills and 16 digs in the loss. Junior Kayla Demari added 12 kills and seven digs for the Sharks (4-7, 2-1 PacWest). HPU junior Kennedy Poligratis steadied the defense with 23 digs.
Lauren Gammell recorded a team-high 21 kills for the Trailblazers (3-7, 1-1 PacWest).
