Power outage forces Waianae elementary school closure

Nanaikapono Elementary School in Waianae is closed today due to a power outage, according to the state Department of Education.

On Wednesday afternoon, contractors were doing work either at or near the school library when the power outage occurred. Workers had assured repairs would be completed by this morning.

Shannon Tangonan, spokeswoman for Hawaiian Electric Co., said they received a call from the school at 6 a.m. today.

HECO is sending a troubleshooter to investigate what happened.
