Central Florida sophomore quarterback McKenzie Milton, a 2016 Mililani graduate, was one of 13 players added to the 2017 Maxwell Award Watch List on Friday.
The Maxwell Award is presented each year to the most outstanding collegiate football player in the country.
Milton ranks in the top 15 nationally in four offensive categories. He is seventh in passing efficiency (173.0), ninth in passing yards per attempt (9.65), 11th in passing yards per completion (14.92) and 14th in total offense, averaging 325.7 yards per game.
Milton has the Knights 3-0 and ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since 2013, when Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles started for the Knights.
No. 25 UCF is on the road playing Cincinnati today. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU at 2 p.m.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Oct. 30 and three finalists will be announced Nov. 20. The winner of the 2017 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will be held on Dec. 7 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Sharks fall in three to Dixie State
Host Dixie State swept the Hawaii Pacific women’s volleyball squad 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 on Friday in St. George, Utah. Junior Kennedy Poligratis picked up a team-high 16 digs for the Sharks in the loss. Sophomore Perla Escobar finished with a team-high 11 kills.
Sid Brandon led Dixie State with 18 digs, while a trio of Trailblazers put down eight kills each. The Trailblazers (6-8, 4-2 PacWest) outblocked the Sharks 11-3 and also recorded a .298 hitting percentage compared to HPU’s .110.
The Sharks fall to 6-9 overall and 4-3 in PacWest play.
