Honolulu one of the greenest large cities in U.S.

In a recent study, Honolulu was ranked as No. 4 among that nation’s greenest cities. The analysis was based on green-focused handling of environmental, transportation, energy sources, lifestyle and “smart-energy” public policy issues.

WalletHub’s recently released “2017’s Greenest Cities in America” study ranks Honolulu as No. 4 among the nation’s 100 largest cities.

In its analysis — based on green-focused handling of environmental, transportation, energy sources, lifestyle and “smart-energy” public policy issues — Honolulu had the top score in two categories: highest percentage of green space (tied with Anchorage and Fremont, Calif.), and most farmers markets per capita (tied with San Francisco, which ranked as the overall greenest city.)

It’s good to be green.

For regular shoppers, Ala Moana is on Target

What’s interesting is that there’s such a lot of enthusiasm about Target’s soon-to-open Ala Moana Center store from the other retailers surrounding it.

Hawaii’s largest mall has drifted more upscale in recent years with boutiques and full-scale department stores that plainly market to people of some means. The addition of uber-ritzy Park Lane condos to the old Sears parking deck compounds that sensibility.

Merchants are thrilled to draw more of the local, middle-income shoppers to the center, especially the wing formerly anchored by Nordstrom. As that well-known Ala Moana ad said: Ooh! Ah! Oh wow!
