UH beats UCSB to end soccer slide
Sonest Furtado scored twice to carry the Hawaii soccer team to a 2-1 win over UC Santa Barbara tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium, snapping a streak of six Big West losses for the program going back to 2016.
UH (6-7, 1-3 BWC) fell behind in the 17th minute on a corner-kick score by Sydney Magnin, but Furtado scored in the 45th and 86th minutes to turn it around.
Her winning score came on an assist from Keala Parker-Lee, who blasted the ball upfield and found Furtado in space. The senior out of Waianae High juked to her right to get in the penalty box and blasted the ball to the upper left corner.
They were the 12th and 13th career goals for the senior, who previously hadn’t scored in a Big West game.
The Wahine host Cal State Northridge at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
