A man died and a woman was left in serious condition following a head-on collision on Daniel K. Inouye Highway on Saturday morning.
Hawaii island police said a minivan traveling east on the highway crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a vehicle headed west.
The driver of the minivan was taken to an area hospital, where he later died. The female driver of the other vehicle was also taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Police closed the highway from the 9-mile marker above Hilo to the Waikii entrance above Waimea for several hours while an investigation was conducted.
Man charged with manslaughter after fight
A man, 39, has been charged with manslaughter after another man, 36, died Tuesday of injuries from an altercation last month.
Dentric Kenta Dunmore was charged Friday afternoon. His bail was set at $150,000.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Hawaii resident Dishaun Walton. Walton died from blunt force injuries to the head, the office said.
On Sept. 20, Dunmore was in a fight with Walton that sent Walton to the hospital, police said. Walton died Tuesday. Dunmore was arrested Thursday in Kaimuki for investigation of second-degree murder, but the offense was later reduced to manslaughter.
Suspect is arrested in attack on Lyft driver
A 38-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he assaulted a Lyft driver in Waikiki, police said.
The suspect punched the 42-year-old driver at about 5 a.m. Saturday while the driver was seated in the vehicle, police said. The suspect also allegedly damaged the vehicle.
He was arrested about 30 minutes later for investigation of unauthorized entry in a motor vehicle and second-degree criminal property damage.
Stabbing near pier leads to assault charge
A 38-year-old man was charged Saturday in connection with the stabbing of a fishing boat crew member near Pier 38 at Honolulu Harbor, police said.
Police said the suspect is an acquaintance of the victim and rode up on a bike before assaulting the other man with a knife at 1135 N. Nimitz Highway around 8:10 p.m. Friday.
The victim, 29, was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition, police said. The suspect was located and arrested about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He was charged with second-degree assault and bail was set at $25,000.
