Manin to fill UH women’s post on interim basis

Lois Manin is expected to be confirmed as the University of Hawaii’s interim associate athletic director and senior woman administrator when the Board of Regents meets Thursday.

She fills the vacancy left by Marilyn Moniz-Kaho’ohanohano, who retired in June after more than a quarter-century at UH. The NCAA and Big West require members to designate an SWA.

Manin’s appointment is scheduled to run until Oct. 19, 2018, at a listed annual salary of $118,008, plus a $1,000 stipend. Athletic director David Matlin said there is no timetable for making a permanent selection. Effective with Manin’s promotion, Matlin said UH will “no longer tie the SWA to a” specific administrative position. “It is a designation that we will give to a senior woman administrator and pay a stipend for these responsibilities.”

Manin served 12 years as sports information director at UH until becoming assistant stadium manager at Aloha Stadium in 2007. She held that position for eight and half years until returning to UH in 2016 as director of football operations.

This year she became Matlin’s chief of staff. “I am excited about the possibility to have Lois step into the position,” Matlin said. “Lois has a wealth of experience in sports management, including being part of the Aloha Stadium senior management team. Coupling her experience with her being a former student-athlete gives her a unique perspective that will benefit our students, coaches and administrative team.”

Manin is a graduate of Colorado State, where she was a four-year letterwinner in softball.
