Nalu Health Bar & Cafe hosts the grand opening of its second location Friday, with entertainment by reggae artist Mike Love, samples and prize giveaways.
The Kailua-based cafe, known for acai bowls made with organic berries from Brazil, is at South Shore Market in Ward Village. Both co-owner Christiane Pfisterer and acai itself originated in Brazil.
Joining a menu of sandwiches and fruit drinks are new items of breakfast paninis, a steak sandwich and a peanut butter Monkey Kine Smoothie.
The grand opening runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Regular hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, until 6 p.m. Sundays. Call 597-8871.
AND IN Kapahulu, Chronic Tacos introduces its first Hawaii location Saturday in the Safeway Kapahulu complex, with the day’s sales benefiting Kokua Hawai‘i Foundation.
The California-based chain serves made-from-scratch Mexican favorites: burritos, tostada bowls and tacos made with a choice of steak, chicken, slow-cooked pork and spicy pork fillings. Also on the menu: grilled or beer-battered fish, Baja style.
Grand-opening festivities, 4 to 6 p.m., will include entertainment, free tacos and prize giveaways, with 20 percent of sales all day going to Kokua Hawai‘i’s ‘Aina in Schools Program. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
