Ceremony for Japan’s deer

A man portraying a Shinto priest trims the antlers of a deer Oct. 7, 2017 during an annual event at Rokuen, a deer park in Nara, Japan. Antlers are cut every autumn to prevent the animals in the park from injuring each other or visitors. About 1,100 people watched on the first day of the two-day event as men captured bucks with a lasso and trimmed the antlers. The antler-cutting dates back to the early Edo period.
