Clarification
>> Honolulu police Maj. Les Hite said newly appointed HPD Chief Susan Ballard was named a major by then-Chief Lee Donohue in 2001 but was not promoted subsequently because she would speak out against leadership and paid the price. He did not specifically cite now-retired Chiefs Boisse Correa and Louis Kealoha as not promoting Ballard, as was reported in a Page A1 story Wednesday.
