Jared Kinoshita and Evan Merrier shot a 4-over-par 144 to lead the Hawaii Hilo men’s golf team at the Dennis Rose Invitational on Friday at Waikoloa Beach Course. Kinoshita and Merrier are tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard, along with HPU’s Minsu Lee. UHH’s Taylor Patrick (146) and Ryan Roodzant (148) also placed in the top 20.
The Vulcans remain in fourth place in the eight-team tourney with a total score of 579, while Hawaii Pacific (600) and Chaminade (643) trail in seventh and eighth place. Saint Martin’s leads the pack with a two-stroke lead at 571, ahead of Wilmington (Del.).
Green wins Rainbow Wahine scrimmage
The Green team defeated the White squad 38-32 in the University of Hawaii’s women’s basketball preseason opener on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Sophomore Makenna Woodfolk finished with 11 points and hit five of nine field goals. Lauren Rewers, a 6-foot-4 freshman center, brought down five rebounds and scored four points. Both teams combined to hit 16 of 19 free throws in three eight-minute periods.
The Rainbow Wahine will face Hawaii Hilo in an exhibition game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
