Three people who were arrested Friday for protesting at a meeting of the state Board of Land and Natural Resources were released after posting bail.
The three men, ages 28, 47 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct after they called for the resignation of board member Sam “Ohu” Gon III before the start of the meeting and refused to leave the room.
The protesters, who were reportedly upset at the board’s decision to authorize the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea, were released after each posted $100 bail.
Gon is a senior scientist and cultural adviser at the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii and an affiliate faculty member at the University of Hawaii-Manoa’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
