All-State Marching Band invited to Rose Parade

The Hawaii All-State Marching Band (Na Koa Ali‘i) has been invited to the 2019 Tournament of Roses parade.
The band comprises student musicians and dancers nominated by band directors from more than 44 public and private high schools around the state.
According to founder and director John Riggle, the appearance in Pasadena will be the fourth for the Hawaii band over the past 15 years. The band has also represented Hawaii four times in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Attorney general sets take-back drugs day
Another prescription drug take-back day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Leeward Community College parking lot.
The state Attorney General’s office in partnership with the state Department of Public Safety Narcotics Enforcement Division is offering the free and anonymous service at the Leeward Discovery Fair/Celebrate Safe Communities Day.

Tablets, capsules and all other solid forms of medication will be accepted, according to a news release from the attorney general’s office. New or used needles and syringes will not be accepted. Pills do not need to be emptied from containers, nor labels removed off bottles. Everything will be disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
“Last week we collected more than 2,700 pounds of unused prescription drugs,” state Attorney General Douglas Chin said in the news release. “Safe disposal is good for the environment and good for public safety.”
