Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash in Wailea that killed a 21-year-old Kihei woman.
She was identified Monday as Rhendie M. Hepa.
Shortly after 7:05 p.m. Sunday, police said, Hepa was traveling north on Wailea Alanui Drive near Malukai Lane in a blue 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
The vehicle struck a raised curb on the shoulder of the roadway while negotiating a right curve. Police said the truck then climbed the curb and slammed into a tree.
Hepa was transported in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she later died.
Police said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
This was Maui County’s 15th traffic-related fatality this year, compared with 21 at the same time last year.
