State schedules closures for Diamond Head trail rockfall mitigation
The state has updated its construction schedule for rockfall mitigation work at the popular Diamond Head State Monument summit trail from late November to mid-December, resulting in some full-day closures.
From Monday through Thursday for this month, with the exception of Thanksgiving week, the summit trail will be closed and no hiking will be allowed, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The summit trail will also be closed starting at noon on Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and from Monday to Friday the first two weeks of December. On those days, all hikers must be off the summit trail by 2 p.m. During Thanksgiving week from Nov. 20 to 24, the summit trail will also be closed at noon, with all hikers required to be off by 2 p.m.
The summit trail will remain open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and on state holidays including Veteran’s Day, observed on Friday.
