UH to get $1.7M for sustainable ag, food programs
The University of Hawaii will receive more than $1.7 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support its agriculture and sustainability education programs.
U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono announced $1.3 million of the funding would go to the UH-Manoa for its Hi!ag program, which includes the GoFarm Hawaii AgBusiness Program and the remainder to the University of Hawaii at West Oahu for the expansion of its Sustainable Community Food Systems program and outreach to Native Hawaiian students.
“As we work toward growing more of our food at home, this funding will support programs across the University of Hawaii system that create pathways for local students to have meaningful careers in Hawaii’s agricultural industry,” said Sen. Hirono.
