Woman in custody after commandeering cab in Kailua, police say
A 55-year-old woman was in custody Friday after police said she took possession of a taxi cab from the driver in Kailua.
The woman was a customer in the taxi when she took control of the vehicle and drove away about 7:25 p.m., police said.
The cab driver, 52, flagged down another driver and together they followed the woman until police pulled her over near Mokapu Boulevard and Kapaa Quarry Road.
Police said the exterior of the cab caught on fire while the woman was trying to flee.
Police arrested her for investigation of auto theft, second-degree theft, and interference with the operator of a public transportation vehicle.
