I know only one person who fills his Instagram feed with brown foods; the rest of us like to see food in a rainbow of colors.
As if acknowledging there’s more to dining than an endless pool of brown, Nin Nin curry house has introduced a vivid pink curry ($8.95).
The unexpected can be scary, and this curry looks more fruity than savory, but that’s not the case. It gets its color from a healthful shot of beet puree, but it’s also shot through with fine threads of shredded chicken, making it taste more like a chicken stew that’s milder in flavor and lighter in texture than a traditional Japanese curry. It’s great for kids and those with sensitive palates.
The pink curry plate comes with rice and a handful of steamed veggies.
Only 20 orders are available per day. To be sure they don’t run out before you get there, show up at opening, 11 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.
Nin Nin is in the Waikiki Yokocho Gourmet Alley at Waikiki Shopping Plaza, 2250 Kalakaua Ave.
