Niksha Federico scored 26 points and Jonathan Janssen added 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team beat Corban 81-73 on Monday in Salem, Ore.
The Sharks improved to 2-1. AJ Monterossi finished with 22 points for the Warriors (1-2).
Earlier in the day, Federico was named PacWest men’s defender of the week.
The 6-foot-7 senior from San Diego averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds at the GNAC-PacWest Challenge in Anchorage, Alaska.
UH Hilo’s Callaghan honored by PacWest
Hawaii Hilo’s Ryley Callaghan was named PacWest player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Callaghan, a senior guard from Port Orchard, Wash., scored 25 of his 31 points after halftime in an 80-76 victory over No. 19 Western Washington on Saturday.
The previous day, Callaghan scored 13 points in a loss to Simon Fraser.
UH sailors place fourth in Santa Barbara
The University of Hawaii sailing team placed fourth at the PCCSC Fall Championship, which ended Sunday in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Stanford claimed the 24-team regatta with 66 points. The Rainbows scored 127.
Schremmer eliminated from match play
Honolulu’s Patricia Schremmer fell in the first round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship on Monday in Houston.
Schremmer lost to Eleanor Tucker of Savannah, Ga., 1 up at the Champions Golf Club’s Cypress Creek Course.
