Lifeguards save visitor from drowning at Hanauma Bay
Honolulu lifeguards pulled a Japanese visitor from the waters of Hanauma Bay this morning.
The man, 32, was found around 9:30 a.m. about 25 yards offshore under five feet of water at Hanauma Bay, according to Honolulu Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division spokeswoman Shayne Enright. A relative said he had gone snorkeling, but was not a strong swimmer.
Lifeguards performed two minutes of CPR along with rescue breathing until he regained his pulse and consciousness. Emergency Medical Services transported him to an area hospital in critical condition.
