Wahine finish Big West play with sweep
Senior middle Emily Maglio put down 11 kills and Hawaii notched its 24th straight 20-win campaign with a 25-20, 26-24, 25-16 sweep of UC Irvine in the final Big West volleyball match of the season tonight in Irvine, Calif.
It was the 21st time this year that Maglio reached double digits in kills. Senior libero Savanah Kahakai added 15 digs for the Rainbow Wahine (20-7, 14-2), becoming the third player in program history to have 1,400 digs; at 1,403, Kahakai trails only Elizabeth Ka’aihue (1,416) and Kim Willoughby (1,440) on the career list.
Sophomore middle Natasha Burns added 10 kills with just one error. Sophomore setter Norene Iosia recorded her 15th double-double of the year (19 assists, 18 digs).
For the Anteaters (21-7, 9-6), junior opposite Harlee Kekauoha finished with 12 kills. UCI is now 0-38 all-time against Hawaii.
The Wahine lost senior Kalei Greeley late in Set 3 to a left leg injury.
Hawaii will await its postseason fate on Nov. 26 during the NCAA selection show. The Wahine have only missed the postseason once, that when they went 15-12 in 1992.
