Lifeguards warned people Friday to stay out of the ocean after a 7-foot shark was spotted about 30 feet off Makaha Beach Park.
“The shark is considered aggressive because it was thrashing around,” city Ocean Safety Division spokeswoman Shayne Enright wrote in an email.
Makaha Beach Park remained open, however.
The species was unclear, but the length suggests it could be a reef shark or a juvenile tiger shark.
