Purdue hands Rainbow Wahine first home loss
The Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season today, 79-67 to Purdue in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.
UH (4-2) had its four-game winning streak snapped as the Boilermakers (4-2) jumped out to a huge early lead at the Stan Sheriff Center and coasted the rest of the way. The visitors from the Big Ten shot 54.2 percent from the field, including 60 percent (9-for-15) on 3-pointers, compared to UH’s 43.4 percent overall shooting.
Sarah Toeaina led UH with 12 points, while Julissa Tago and Lahni Salanoa added 11 apiece.
The Wahine trailed by 24 at halftime. The deficit grew to as many as 30 points in the third quarter.
UH concludes the tournament against USC (6-0) at 5 p.m. Sunday. The Women of Troy routed Marist (1-4) by 21, 78-57, in the first game today.
