Firefighters extinguish Nanakuli brush fire
High winds whipped up a five-acre brushfire today in Nanakuli, but firefighters were able to extinguish it without incident, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire started about 10:30 a.m. behind the Sack N Save on Farrington Highway and got away from firefighters for a bit, said Honolulu Fire Capt. James Todd.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire by about 12:30 p.m. and extinguish it about 1:30 p.m. No buildings were threatened, Todd said.
About 30 firefighters responded. No one was hurt and the cause was under investigation.
