It’s good news for consumers that a pilot program testing the effect of admitting ride-hailing services to airport pickups has been given the green light. But if the measure of success is lowering wait-times for the arriving passengers, that translates into more competition for the same dollar — not something the taxi drivers are eager to see.
Their angst is understandable, but one cabbie’s assertion, that this is like the private deal being negotiated with Airbnb, is off the mark. Airbnb’s trade is vacation rentals, not all of them legal. Uber and Lyft cars do belong on the road.
Here’s to easing holiday tradition of postal lines
“Rudolph’s Express Shipping Shack,” situated adjacent to the Main Post Office’s lobby until Dec. 22, is providing customers mailing up to three domestic items the opportunity of faster lines. Starting today, it will be open for quick transactions with a postal clerk, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Also a prepaid package drop-off tent for drive-up service will be collecting packages, noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays — prepay and print out postage from USPS.com.
