One of the top blockers in Rainbow Wahine volleyball history was recognized Tuesday as one of the top players in the country.
Senior middle Emily Maglio, who has led the Big West in blocks for two consecutive seasons, was one of 14 players named to the AVCA All-Pacific North first team. The Canadian national, the only Hawaii player honored, was an honorable mention last season.
Maglio had 155 total blocks, averaging 1.46 blocks per set. She also finished second in the conference by hitting .381.
Maglio is a three-time All-Big West pick as well as an AVCA beach volleyball All-American.
Also honored were Utah senior hitter Adora Anae, a Kahuku High graduate, and Pitt junior setter Kamalani Akeo, a Kamehameha alumna. Anae was named the Pacific South player of the year as well as all-region first team, while Akeo was a first-team All-East pick.
All three are eligible for All-America honors, which will be announced next week.
Akeo’s coach, Dan Fisher, a former UH men’s associate head coach, was named the East Coast region coach of the year.
Cal Poly’s Sam Crosson was named Pacific North coach of the year.
