Former U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka is fighting a leg infection at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

Akaka, 93, was admitted to the hospital a couple of weeks ago after a small infection on his leg worsened, his wife, Millie Akaka, said today.

The senator, who represented Hawaii in Congress from 1976 to 2013, is now on the mend, she said, though he may have to undergo physical therapy to help him with walking.
