Motorcyclist involved in collision in Kunia dies

A motorcyclist has died after he was involved in a two-vehicle collision in Kunia.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release his name.

The crash occurred on Kunia Road, about a mile north of Anonui Street.

At about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, a 2015 Chevy pickup truck operated by a 37-year-old man was traveling north on Kunia Road.

Police said he was making a left turn into a private dirt road, into the path of a 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by a 28-year-old man traveling south.

Police said the truck and motorcycle collided and the motorcyclist was thrown onto the roadway upon impact.

He was transported in critical condition to Queens’ Medical Center-West Oahu where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the 28-year-old man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The truck driver and his front-seat passenger did not sustain any injuries.

It’s unknown whether speed, drugs or alcohol were involved.

This is the 45th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 54 at the same time last year.
