Police are looking for a 24-year-old man wanted on suspicion of murder after a 51-year-old man died about a week after the suspect allegedly assaulted him in Mililani.
The younger man attacked the victim, identified by family members as Thomas Morikawa, at about 7:35 p.m. Dec. 8, police said. Morikawa was taken in critical condition to a hospital and died Friday. Police opened a second-degree murder investigation. No one has been arrested in the case.
Earlier this month another man died days after a fight in Salt Lake. Martin M. Nunn, 36, of Honolulu was in a fight with another man near Ala Ilima Street on the afternoon of Dec. 7.
Nunn was taken in critical condition to a hospital and died two days later. The exact cause of his death is under investigation, and drug test results are pending. Police arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday for investigation of murder in connection with Nunn’s death but released him pending further investigation.
Man, 44, to appear in court in robbery case
A 44-year-old man is awaiting a court appearance today after he assaulted a security guard while trying to steal $200 of whiskey from a store at Ala Moana Center, police said.
Shane Tanioka was charged Friday with second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $15,000, and he has a preliminary hearing scheduled for today.
Tanioka placed two bottles of Whistle Pig Straight Rye Whiskey, worth $99.99 each, into a black duffel bag at Foodland Farms and walked out of the store at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, a police affidavit said. A security officer saw Tanioka place the two 750-milliliter bottles into the bag and tried to stop him outside. Tanioka punched the security guard in the forehead and bit the man’s inner forearm, breaking his skin, police said. Tanioka was detained after a brief struggle. Police said the employee received treatment at a hospital for minor injuries.
Suspects at large in 2 home invasion cases
Police are looking for several people involved in two separate home invasion robberies Sunday morning.
At about 2:30 a.m. five males and one female entered a 21-year-old woman’s home in Waipahu and demanded items, police said. All of the suspects brandished weapons and took property, police said. The suspects fled before police arrived. Their identities and whereabouts are unknown, police said.
At about 4:25 a.m. three males entered the home of five men, ages 34 to 63, brandishing weapons. The suspects allegedly took the victims’ property and fled. Their whereabouts are unknown, police said.
Police said both cases appeared to be random and unrelated.
