Metin Aydin and Franziska Weidner each won three events in the University of Hawaii men’s and women’s swimming teams’ dual meet with Minnesota and Drury on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Aydin, a junior, led the Rainbow Warriors with wins in the 100-yard backstroke (49.15 seconds), 200 backstroke (1:46.53) and 400 individual medley (3:59.38).
Weidner, a senior, paced the Rainbow Wahine by winning the 400 individual medley in a career-best 4:20.71 and the 200 freestyle (1:48.24). Weidner also swam the third leg for UH’s winning 200 freestyle relay team in her final home meet.
UH sophomore Phoebe Hines won the 1,000 freestyle and Kasey Schmidt edged teammate Bryndis Hansen in the 50 freestyle.
Minnesota won both team sections of the meet.
On Friday, UH swept the top three spots in the women’s platform to close the Wally Nakamoto Diving Invitational. Senior Madison Sthamann won, followed by Mariah Renteria and Ivy Houser.
Reardon, Sullivan will speak at QB Club
Honolulu Star-Advertiser sportswriter Dave Reardon and former Honolulu Quarterback Club president Jack Sullivan will be the featured speakers at Monday’s weekly meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Reardon and Sullivan will talk about the legacy of Al Minn, who died recently.
The luncheon, which costs $16, will start at 11:30 a.m. and the program will follow at noon. The public is invited.
