Kahuku High School has hired Sterling Carvalho as its next football coach, the school announced on its website today.

Carvalho, who was the junior varsity coach for the last three seasons, replaces Makoa Freitas, who was the interim coach in 2017.

The Red Raiders finished 11-2 and won the OIA title under Freitas. Kahuku’s two losses were against Bingham (Utah) in Las Vegas in September and against Saint Louis, 31-28, in the state championship game of the Open Division in November.

Both Saint Louis and Bingham finished in the top 20 nationally at the end of the season in the Max Preps Xcellent 25.

Carvalho is the fifth head football coach at Kahuku in the past six years.
