Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run on Maui

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run on Maui.

Positive identification of the pedestrian is pending.

Shortly after 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, police said a black 2013 Honda Civic sedan was traveling north on South Kihei Road and made a left turn into the McDonald’s parking lot. The sedan then struck a curb and hit the pedestrian.

Police said the driver and passengers exited the car and fled on foot. The victim was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police are continuing their investigation.

This is Maui County’s first traffic-related fatality compared to two at the same time last year.
