Punahou senior Alexa Phillips led her school’s 400-yard freestyle relay team past one of the oldest records on the ILH’s books on Saturday.

Phillips teamed with juniors Nohea Lileikis, Chanel Ng and Sydnee Whitty to cover the distance in 3:30.79 at Kamehameha’s pool.

Their time beat Punahou’s record from 2007 by legendary names Michelle Yoshida, Rachel Cote, Brittany Beauchan and Christel Simms.

They put up a time of 3:33.54.

Punahou’s girls won the team title with 105 points over Kamehameha’s 53, with Pac-Five placing third with 38.

The Buffanblu boys tallied 81 points to overcome Kamehameha (45) and Pac-Five (38).

Punahou’s 400 freestyle relay team broke the only other record in the meet, erasing Pac-Five’s mark from last year.

Jake Gaughan was the only senior on the crew, joined by juniors Josh Nekoba and Tyler Kawakami and freshman Noah Peters.

Punahou also took the 200 freestyle for each gender.

Kamehameha junior Jaek Horner was the big winner for the boys, helping the Warriors to a win in the 200 medley relay and taking individual gold in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Denison Piosalan of Pac-Five doubled up in the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Mid-Pacific’s Michael Petrides won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Whitty walked away from the pool with four gold medals, adding the 50 and 200 freestyle individual races to her effort in Punahou’s winning relays.

Jamy Lum of Kamehameha had a hand in three victories, in the 200 medley relay to go with her individual wins in the 200 IM and and 100 breast.

Shaye Story also contributed in the 200 medley for the Warriors and added the 500 freestyle title. She finished second to Whitty in the 200 freestyle.

The OIA championships were postponed until Monday because of weather.
