Suspect in Waianae standoff charged with attempted murder
Prosecutors charged today a 34-year-old man who holed up in a friend’s Waianae apartment for several hours Sunday while Specialized Services Division officers surrounded the building.
Frank Hampp was charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.
His bail was set at $1 million.
Hampp surrendered and police arrested him at 3:55 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of three counts of first-degree attempted murder, resisting arrest, firearms and ammunition offenses and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
Police came in contact with the man during a traffic stop at 10:35 p.m. Saturday on the H-1 freeway between Ewa and Makakilo.
He fled and was spotted again on Farrington Highway several minutes later in a stolen car.

Police pursued Hampp, who fired several shots at multiple police vehicles on Farrington in Waianae, police said.
Hampp allegedly crashed into a fence and fire hydrant on Waianae Valley Road, and fled into a friend’s apartment.
