A 48-year-old visitor was rescued from the Koko Head Trail this afternoon after he fell 10 feet and suffered injuries to his head.

Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel responded to the injured man hiking alone shortly after 1 p.m., dispatching a rescue helicopter and 18 responders, fire Capt. Scot Seguirant said.

The rescue team made its way onto the trail by foot and found the man at 1:32 p.m. The patient was stabilized and readied for transport, but windy conditions prevented an air rescue, Seguirant said.

Instead, the man was carried down the trail and transferred for care to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at 2:25 p.m., he said.
