McCully vape store worker chases after robbery suspect

A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a robbery at a vape shop in McCully.

Kaalouahi Nueku-Mossman is scheduled to appear at Honolulu District Court Wednesday after he was charged Saturday with first-degree robbery.

At about 6 p.m. Friday, police said a suspect later identified as Nueku-Mossman ran out of Vape Kings, a store on 1915 S. King St., with some flavored vape pods as a sales associate was about to ring up the items.

He then drove off in a gold Nissan Altima. Police said the store employee, 28, chased the car to a traffic light at the intersection of South King and McCully streets, stood in front of the vehicle and demanded Nueku-Mossman return the stolen merchandise.

Police said he “repeatedly nudged” the victim’s knees with the vehicle, causing the victim to fall onto the hood of the car.

Nueku-Mossman then drove off while the victim was still on top of the hood. At some point, police said the victim fell onto the road where he sustained minor abrasions.

Shortly after, police located Nueku-Mossman nearby and recovered the stolen items. Police arrested him on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

He has since been released after posting $30,000 bail.
