The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, together with the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management, is conducting a special siren test today in Waipahu.

From 1 to 4 p.m. today, the siren is expected to go off at Village Park, also known as Hoaeae Community Park at 94-709 Kaaholo St. in Waipahu.

Residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to 3-minute intervals during the identified time frame. The testing will include short blasts known as “burps.”

During the tests, Emergency Management officials and technicians will be checking the functionality of the siren, which was installed as part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project.

Questions regarding this test should be directed to the city Department of Emergency Management at 723-8960.
