An unidentified witness told KHON Channel 2 News that he and other witnesses came to the man’s aid after seeing the vehicle on fire.
The witness said the man’s hands were bound with duct tape and that he was on the ground near the burning SUV and screaming for help.
The incident was reported at 5:17 a.m. on Wilikina Drive near Kaukonahua Road. Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the 28-year-old victim in serious condition to a local trauma center.
No arrests have yet been made in the case.
The son of the car’s owner said it was stolen earlier this month in Waikele.
