Girls wearing kimono look at colorful hanging decorations at a hall in the Inatori district of Higashiizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. A festival featuring the decorations, which hang on both sides of hina doll stands, takes place from Jan. 20 through March 31. The decorations are made of pieces of kimono fabric. The festival, a local tradition to pray for the health and well-being of young girls, is said to date back to the Edo period.
