Police release suspect involved in Palolo standoff

Neighbors on Sunday said a man who lives in this building on New Jersey Avenue was involved in a standoff with police.

Police released on Monday the 37-year-old suspect involved in a more than six-hour standoff with police Sunday in Palolo.

The suspect was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of resisting an order to stop a motorized vehicle, possession of a prohibited weapon and violations related to firearm registration and storage.

Police did not explain why he was released with no charges.

Police SWAT team members swarmed the man’s home after a 2 a.m. altercation.

Several residents of the public housing buildings on New Jersey Avenue, where the suspect lives, evacuated.
