No. 2 UH sweeps No. 8 Lewis

Junior hitter Stijn van Tilburg put down a match-high 13 kills and No. 2 Hawaii had nine aces in sweeping No. 8 Lewis 25-12, 25-22, 25-19 in tonight’s second match of the 24th Outrigger Resorts Invitational men’s volleyball tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors (12-2) will face No. 11 Penn State (10-5) on Friday at 7 p.m. in a rematch of last May’s NCAA tournament quarterfinal. The Nittany Lions had 23 service errors in falling to No. 4 Brigham Young in tonight’s first match, 21-25, 29-27, 25-22, 19-25, 15-13.

The Cougars (15-4) take on the Flyers (13-6) in Friday’s first match at 4 p.m.

Hawaii sophomore hitter Austin Matautia tied his career high with four aces, serving up three in a row early in Set 1, and added 10 kills.

Sophomore hitter Ryan Coenen led the Flyers with 11 kills.
