The University of Hawaii softball team got blitzed by James Madison 12-1 in six innings in the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament on Saturday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Dukes scored seven runs in the second inning and five in the sixth.
Rachel Turner went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Rainbow Wahine (11-11).
Payton Buresch allowed six hits and one unearned run and Odicci Alexander and Kierstin Roadcap each drove in three runs for the Dukes (17-5).
Hawaii Hilo softball swept by Concordia
The Hawaii Hilo softball team dropped a pair of one-run games to Concordia on Saturday at UHH field.
In the first game, the Vulcans’ Cyanne Fernandez pitched a seven-hitter and Brinell Kaleikini homered in a 2-1 loss. The Eagles’ Callie Nunes tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
In the second game, Hilo blew a six-run lead in a 7-6, eight-inning loss. Bailey Gaspar drove in two runs for the Vulcans (13-6, 4-2 PacWest). Kailey Palazzolo doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth for the Eagles (14-5, 7-3).
HPU baseball splits with No. 10 Cal Baptist
Marc Sauceda hit a go-ahead, two-run single to cap a four-run sixth inning as the Hawaii Pacific baseball team beat No. 10 Cal Baptist 6-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The Sharks’ Wyatt Hoppie and Mitchell Bumann drew bases-loaded walks earlier in the inning.
In the first game, HPU’s Codi Santana went 3-for-4 with a home run in a 12-1 loss. Cal Baptist’s Andrew Bash pitched six shutout innings and went 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
The Sharks moved to 10-9, 4-7 PacWest, while the Lancers went to 13-4, 6-1.
UH water polo team wins 2 in San Diego
The No. 5 University of Hawaii water polo team defeated Sonoma State and No. 20 Harvard in two matches at the Aztec Invitational on Saturday in San Diego.
Lalelei Mataafa scored four goals and Chloe Barr added three for the Rainbow Wahine in the 15-1 win over Sonoma State (4-13). Molly DiLalla made nines saves for Hawaii.
Irene Gonzalez scored three goals and DiLalla made 11 saves in the Rainbow Wahine’s 10-5 victory over Harvard (7-6).
The Rainbow Wahine improved to 14-3.
Sigall to speak at Honolulu QB Club
Bob Sigall, a marketing professor at Hawaii Pacific University, a columnist and author, will be the featured speaker at Monday’s meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at the Maple Garden restaurant.
Sigall’s book, “The Companies We Keep,” focuses on Hawaii’s people, places, companies and sports.
The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. with the program to start at noon. The cost is $16. The meeting is open to the general public.
