In a convenience-obsessed world in which we can buy nearly anything with a few clicks online, many brick-and-mortar stores are adapting to the changing consumer trends. Supermarkets in South Korea are reinventing themselves as “grocerants.”
The prepared-food sections in South Korean supermarkets are already very popular, and now some stores are taking it further to offer sit-down dining. Some variants have a food court within the market. The “grocerant” version, operated by the supermarket, offers fresh ingredients, convenience and tasty menus. For example, separate stations offer such options as lobster, juice, salad and steak.
